In December of 2006, as I was preparing to close up a warehouse that I had rented for over 10 years, Kevin Thornton called with an idea. Kevin and I had always wanted this warehouse to be a place of creativity; a place where no artist was judged and music set the mood. This was the birth of F6 Gallery. Kevin introduced me to Jeru and Cameron, who became the four-person driving force behind F6 Gallery. Jeru quickly started myspace.com/f6gallery and we all started planning the first show February 2007. This show consisted of art by Kevin, Jeru, Cameron and Stephanie Brown. The band Liquid Bounce played and B-Boys performed, along with Cameron on the turntables. As the night ended, it was evident we had started something great and this was going to be a great place to hang out! “Keep it fresh,” Cameron said, and with that in mind we have had amazing shows! Since February 2007, there have been 17 shows with over 100 artists participating. DJs have laid down their tracks with B-Boys spinning on the floor. I have seen artists show for their first time, artists sell for the first time, and many pieces of art sold by artists. As F6 Gallery has grown, so has the work to keep it going. We now have a larger group, behind the scenes, working to keep this place of art running. F6 Gallery has a dedicated group of selfless people working every month to grow the gallery and expand our artist network. -Mike Smith, founder
