29th Annual Basically Beethoven Festival
For many people, Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827), represents the highest level of musical genius. First drawing attention as a pianist and composer in the 1790s, his writing was considered odd and difficult. His career began to flourish around 1800, the year of his first symphony. He would eventually go down in history as a crucial figure during the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western classical music, and even today remains one of the most acclaimed and influential composers of all time, his most popular works being his nine symphonies that are still widely played in music halls around the globe. To celebrate his genius, the Basically Beethoven Festival is held every Sunday afternoon in July in the Grand Hall at Fair Park. This popular, free series offers professional concerts of classical music in the comfort of an indoor, air-conditioned auditorium surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Festival also includes the pre-concert youth recital -- For the Love of Music -- showcasing young talent, which can be a great inspiration for the musician in any family to see.
